Business Opportunities at CERN and other Major International Research Facilities
Ever wondered how great it will be to get involved with major projects such as the Large Hadron Collider or SKA – the world’s largest radio telescope? The opportunities are more varied than you might think.
Our two guest speakers will help you explore commercial opportunities available to UK companies at prestigious international research facilities around the world such as CERN, ESO, ESRF, ILL, ESS and SKA.
Below are some of the sectors that are relevant to opportunities:
• Electronics and electrical engineering
• Civil engineering and buildings
• Instrumentation (including accelerators, vacuum, cryogenics and detector technologies)
• Mechanical Structures and Materials
• Computing and information technologies
All current and upcoming opportunities over 200KCHF at CERN are listed here, but there are smaller opportunities also available across the different sites. You can view case studies of some of successful contracts from the past here.
Dr Julie Bellingham, Head of Business Opportunities for International Facilities (Science and Technology Facilities Council – STFC)
Julie leads the tender opportunities team to represent the interests of UK industry at international facilities funded by STFC, including CERN, ESRF, ILL, ESS and SKA.
The team promotes tender opportunities to UK industry and service providers, helps buyers and companies form relationships and helps companies to understand the processes of intergovernmental organisations like CERN.
Julie also sits on committees at the facilities, working with the facility management and other member state representatives to ensure the procedures for procurement are fair and transparent.
Paul Rowe, Managing Director, Wessington Cryogenics
Wessington Cryogenics is a local company that has successfully benefited from opportunities and built a business relationship with CERN. Paul will be sharing his experiences supplying CERN over the years.
